Most web sites will attempt to download or import .QBO files from their web site to your local QuickBooks data file. As with most files, .QBO files has an association. According to Intuit, this is always either the last edition of QuickBooks installed on a server/workstation, or the last version repaired on a server/workstation. In regard to Cloud9, the file association for .QBO files is in most cases the last version of QuickBooks installed. This may be either 2012 (for our shared environment and some virtual servers) or the latest edition of QuickBooks for other virtual servers. The .QBO file will not automatically recognize the version of QuickBooks you have opened. When a client attempts to import a .QBO file directly into a QuickBooks file, they are met with a message on how to process that message, with the options "Open", "Save", or "Cancel". When "Open" is pressed, it will attempt to open the last edition of QuickBooks. So if you have a 2011 (or 11.0 if you use Enterprise) QuickBooks data file open, and the last edition of QuickBooks installed is 2012, an edition of QuickBooks 2012 will open, and may prompt you with an error message. The same can be said for most other editions of QuickBooks. At this time there is a work-around for this issue until Intuit finds a solution for this problem: 1. Logged into your QuickBooks data file, go to Banking - Online Banking - Online Baking Center. 2. When prompted to download a QuickBooks WebConnect file (.QBO), select "Save". Save the data file to the H: drive, following by the company in which you're doing Bookkeeping for. You may save the .QBO file anywhere in there, or in a location that is easily accessible. (NOTE: Do not save the .QBO file inside the C: drive, as this drive is not your local computer's drive, nor is it a secure drive to save data to.) 3. Once the .QBO file downloaded to the H: drive, go to Banking - Online Banking - Import WebConnect File. An Open File dialogue box will pop up, asking you to select a .QBO file. Navigate to where you saved the .QBO file, then click "Open". 4. If done properly, an Online Banking progress bar will open letting you know how far long QuickBooks is in importing the file. Once completed, you will receive a box saying that QuickBooks has successfully imported the WebConnect file. | |
